Snowmass - Part 1 - Getting There

We took our first family-of-four vacation to Snowmass, Colorado.  We've been planning the trip since October, and talking about it for at least a year.  I was so excited to go back.

These brave ladies came with us.

Ben was very excited about his first plane trip.

There was a kids' play area next to our gate which could not have been more perfect.  There was also a set of escalators which I think were even more entertaining.

On the plane we were two-by-two.  Daddy and Buddy.

Mommy and Benny.

Mimi and Mister.

The boys did great on the short two hour plane trip.  We had two tablets so they could watch movies, snacks, toys, and books to keep them busy.  Ben was just like Sam at that age and did not like the headphones.

PJ's, coffee, and toys.

The view from our condo.

We had an early start the first day.

Our first stop was to get Sam's ski gear and get him checked in for ski school.

Ben was very interested in the whole process, but was just a few months too young to try out skiing this time around.  He's not quite adventurous as Sam yet, so I'm not sure he would have even tolerated all the gear if we'd tried.  He cried every morning when we dropped him off at The Treehouse, but he still does that most days at school any way.  He had lots of fun, did some crafts, played in the snow, and even took a field trip one day.

Mimi's sore calves after the first day of skiing.

Off to the Stew Pot for dinner.  Fletcher Duke and his wife Sol own the restaurant and the food is amazing.  We ate almost every meal there the whole week.

Once again with the toys ... anything to keep them occupied (and quiet).

This big chair in the Village Mall was an endless source of fascination for the boys.

Grooming the run.

Who can live without TV for a week?  Not the parents of two little boys!

Playing in the snow in the courtyard before ski school.

Ben is tiny and Sam's ski clothes from that age did not fit him.  He's two years and three months old and this is an 18m snow suit.  I don't know how parents in colder climates do it every day.  Dressing this little guy in this little snowsuit, hat, gloves, and boots every day was a real challenge.

The view was amazing.  It was so clear and sunny the first two days.  We only had the point-and-shoot camera and iPhones with us on this trip so we didn't feel very inspired to take many landscape shots.

Snowmass got two feet of snow the week before we got there, so the skiing was great.

Neck gaiters ... warm, not sexy.

This is Sam skiing midday on the second day.

This video is from the weekend before the trip.  Ben was serenading me as I packed.
