Houston - The Woodlands

Chris and I both took the week off of work for 4th of July and headed out of town with the boys.  Not wanting to make the 10 hour drive straight to the MS coast, we stopped off in The Woodlands near Houston for a couple of nights.  The boys were so excited and had been counting down the days until vacation.  Ben was especially interested in where we were and where we were going.  He kept checking in with us to make sure we were still in Houston and were still going to Mississippi.  It was the first vacation we've taken in six years without diapers or pull-ups, so I was pretty excited!

We had a little bit of rain midday so we headed over to the waterway, grabbed some lunch, and took a tour on a water taxi.

Then into the mall for a few rides on the carousel.

Earlier that day at the swimming pool ...  this area of the pool was really deep.  It had painting and mosaics on the bottom and sides of the pool for the bigger kids to do a scavenger hunt.

This was the little kid area and splash yard.

Sam and Chris spent most of their time on the two story water slide.  That's Sam coming out on his tummy on the right.  He's become quite the adventurous swimmer this summer!

Later that evening ... s'mores anyone?

We stopped at the Sam Houston statue on the way to Houston after work on Friday.  It was pretty late and way after the boys bed time so they were pretty freaked out.

Family Portraits

We had family portraits taken back in March and got the photos in April.  They were the first professional photos we'd had taken.  I was so excited at how they turned out.  These are my favorites.

Andrea (Andrea B. Photography) had her hands full with Sam and Ben.  Ben didn't want to get two feet away from me and we had a hard time keeping his thumb out of his mouth and his fingers out of his hair.  Sam wanted to explore and when he did look in the general direction of the camera it was with that cheesy five-year-old fake smile.  Andrea did a great job making them smile and act naturally.

Happy Birthday, Work-a-holic

Hi.  My name is Emily, and I am a work-a-holic.  I think this is the first time since we started the blog in 2006 that we skipped a whole month. We didn't write a single post in June.  That's not to say that we haven't been doing things.  We've been quite busy having a good time, but I have not been able strike a good balance between work and home over the last few months, so I have lots and lots of posts to catch up on.  I'll start with the most recent ...

Happy Birthday to me!!!  We went to a Texas Rangers game for my birthday.  Pops was in town, Mimi came along, and the boys were quite excited.

We had some pretty awesome seats!

The game was at 2pm so the boys got a little hot and headed to the Kid's Zone with Mimi.

Ben was very excited about his tattoos.

Sam liked playing the games for prizes.

Birthday dinner was amazing with fresh Gulf seafood and Blum's Caramel Crunch Cake.

Nothing is better than spending my birthday with my family!!!
